When seeking help, it can be hard to know where to turn. Many people don't know the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist. Counsellors are a great place to start your mental health journey. Counsellors offer support and guidance for a range of concerns, including relationship challenges, stress and anxiety, depression and life transitions. With counsellors, the focus is on enhancing overall wellbeing, personal growth and self-awareness. There is no requirement for a GP referral when seeing a counsellor and fees can be significantly lower.
Psychologists and Psychiatrists are trained to deal with more complex issues and a key element in psychology is diagnosis while Psychiatry also includes the provision of medications.
I work from a humanistic approach with an eclectic style. This means I am non-directive in therapy and trust that you are the expert in your own life. I draw from various modalities and tools to tailor therapy to you as an individual. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and get to know each other, and I might suggest some approaches I think could be helpful. As we progress, I will continue to check in with you as to what's working for you and how you are progressing regarding your goals.
Life coaching can help you achieve your personal and professional goals. I will provide guidance, support, and motivation to help you identify your strengths, overcome obstacles, and achieve success in all areas of your life.
Another key part of the counselling process is helping you to access all of the support and services that may help you along your journey to well-being. If I recognise the need for further support, I can refer you to services that are tailored to your individual needs.
